Deputy Mayor of Rakova: Moscow to conduct 1.5 times more IVF procedures under compulsory medical insurance this year
12.03.2025Thanks to the reproductive health support program launched in the capital last September, assisted reproductive technologies will become even more accessible. In 2025, even more IVF procedures will be available under the compulsory medical insurance policy than last year — about 14 thousand. This was reported by Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.
"In Moscow, we try to provide comprehensive support to women who want to become mothers. In the last few years alone, we have introduced a new standard of obstetric and gynecological care, built modern perinatal centers, equipped maternity hospitals with advanced equipment, opened five Women's Health Centers, and introduced several client paths into practice. All this is to successfully manage even the most difficult cases of pregnancy, care for newborns with extremely low body weight, diagnose and treat diseases in children at the stage of intrauterine development. We are also actively working on the availability of assisted reproductive technologies for women who cannot yet get pregnant for a number of reasons. For example, this year, about 14 thousand Muscovites will be able to undergo the IVF procedure under the compulsory medical insurance policy. This became possible thanks to the reproductive health support program. Also, if there are indications, women can preserve eggs or embryos in frozen form to ensure their ability to get pregnant in the future. All these opportunities will help even more Moscow families find the happiness of becoming parents," — the deputy mayor said.
Today, couples who have difficulty conceiving a child naturally, women with a number of genetic diseases, and women who do not have a permanent partner can seek help from Moscow doctors. To begin with, the patient must visit her obstetrician-gynecologist at the antenatal clinic or the Women's Health Center, where it will be determined whether she has medical indications for IVF. After conducting the necessary studies and receiving the necessary documents, a decision is made on which medical institution will conduct IVF.
A woman can choose a clinic for the procedures herself from the list that will be provided to her by her attending physician. This may be a hospital under the jurisdiction of the capital's Department of Health, a federal institution or a commercial clinic: with a doctor's referral, all necessary procedures will be performed free of charge in any case. Today, 35 Moscow clinics perform IVF procedures free of charge. The full list can be found on the website of the Moscow Department of Health.
A unique reproductive health program is being implemented in Moscow, which helps women plan their pregnancy and give birth to a healthy child. Women who dream of becoming mothers, but are postponing motherhood for one reason or another, with a low AMH level are offered to consult an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Women's Health Center or women's consultation center and save their eggs or embryos in frozen form free of charge to ensure the possibility of becoming pregnant in the future using assisted reproductive technologies. More information about the reproductive health program can be found at official website at the link.
