Deputy Mayor Rakova spoke about the start of New Year's excursions for older Muscovites
10.12.2024The winter season has begun in the Moscow Longevity project. For the first time, thematic New Year excursions dedicated to the history of New Year holidays will be held for older city residents. This was reported by Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.
"Older Muscovites show a keen interest in our city, its unique architecture and history. That is why the winter season in the Moscow Longevity project begins with themed walks around the city. This year, for the first time, senior citizens will be given excursions that will allow them to take a fresh look at the capital and learn about the New Year traditions of our ancestors. In addition, as is already traditional, the project participants will be able to participate in outdoor activities all winter long. Groups for Nordic walking, gymnastics, general physical training are open for them, and when the capital has a permanent snow cover, their favorite skating and skiing classes will begin," — the deputy mayor noted.
On new excursions, Muscovites of silver age, together with professional tour guides, will immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the upcoming holiday. For example, on the route "New Year's Fairy Tale in Luzhniki and on Sparrow Hills" Muscovites will visit the New Year's Post Office of the headquarters of Father Frost in Luzhniki, the Moscow Palace of Pioneers, walk along the Walk of Fame of the Winter Olympic Stars on Sparrow Hills and look at the decorated city from a bird's eye view on the observation deck at Moscow State University.
The program "New Year's Patterns of Moscow" will demonstrate noble estates and merchant mansions in all their glory, learn how their inhabitants celebrated holidays, where the first electric lamp was installed in the city and where the creator of the Hermitage Garden lived. And on the excursion "When the Stars Light Up!" older Muscovites will get acquainted with one of the symbols of the New Year - the Spasskaya and Nikolskaya Towers of the Moscow Kremlin, and take a walk along Manezhnaya and Theater Squares.
The route "Christmas and New Year in Pre-Revolutionary Moscow" starts from the metro station "Dynamo", the main object of which will be Petrovsky Park. Its history is connected with members of the imperial family, representatives of the most famous noble dynasties of Russia, as well as merchant entrepreneurs. In the "New Year's Journey to the German Quarter", the project participants will immerse themselves in the history of the holiday of Peter the Great's time, learn how the New Year was celebrated before, during and after Peter I, see the Lefortovo Palace, which was used by the emperor for ceremonial events and the house of Anna Mons, as well as the unique bell tower of the Old Believer church, the territory of the modern cultural cluster "Basmanny Dvor" and much more.
